Thunder Fall to Allegheny in Season-Opener

ALBION, MICH.-- The Trine women's lacrosse team was defeated by Allegheny 16-0 in the season-opener for the Thunder Sunday afternoon at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.

A 12-goal first half paced the Gators to their fourth-consecutive win to open the season. Christine McGrath led the way with four goals, while McKenzie Bell added three tallies for Allegheny. Christina Perez played 52:07 in net and made two saves to get credit for the victory. The Gators took 43 shots in the contest, 38 of which found their way on net. Trine falls to 0-1 on the season, with Allegheny staying undefeated at 4-0.

Despite the final goal tally, Trine got a superb, record-setting performance in goal from Grace Garrett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel). The junior made a school-record 22 saves in the contest, many of those coming from point-blank range. She stopped 5-of-10 free-position shots. Garrett became the school's all-time leader in saves during the game and now has 196 in her Trine career.

Trine returns to action Sunday, Mar. 23 when they travel to Mt. St. Joseph, with game time slated for 3:00 p.m.
