Women's Lacrosse Drops Tight Contest to Ursuline

ANGOLA, IND.—The Trine women's lacrosse team came up on the short end of a back-and-forth contest, falling to Ursuline 11-9 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.

The game featured seven ties and five lead changes. Ursuline scored three-consecutive goals to turn a one-goal deficit into a two-goal lead in the final 10 minutes, and that proved too much for the Thunder to overcome. Megan Wood scored five goals for the Arrows. Darcy Little (Williamsburg, Ohio/Williamsburg) and Hunter Johnson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake) each scored three goals to pace Trine. Little added an assist for a four-point afternoon. Ursuline held a narrow 32-29 edge in shots on goal. The Thunder fall to 1-3 on the season. Ursuline improves to 2-3 overall.

Little scored two unassisted goals in the first, while Johnson and Megan Russ (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) added tallies in the first half for Trine. Wood scored three of her goals in the first half, the last of which gave Arrows the 5-4 lead going into halftime.

Johnson and Little scored 40 seconds apart in the opening minutes of the second half to give Trine a 6-5 lead. Back-to-back goals by Ursuline gave the Arrows the lead right back at 7-6, but Johnson answered to tie the score right back up. A free-position goal by Anne Mammel (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) gave Trine their last lead with 11:35 remaining.

A pair of Bailey Patterson goals sandwiched around a goal by Wood made up the three-goal run that put Ursuline up 10-8 with 6:52 to play. Taylor Gast (Akron, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) cut the deficit to one off a pass from Little with 4:31 remaining, but Patterson scored again with 3:21 on the clock for the final 11-9 margin.

Grace Garrett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) saved 17 of 28 shots on goal for the Thunder. Counterpart Lauren Cole stopped 15 of 24 Trine attempts for Ursuline.

The Thunder return to action this Wednesday, Apr. 2 at 4:00 p.m. when they host Albion in Trine's MIAA-opener.
