ROYAL OAK, MICH.-- Trine's Grace Garrett has been named MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Garrett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) made 29 saves and posted a .630 save percentage to help the Thunder to split of two non-conference games this past week. The junior turned aside 12 of 18 shots on goal in Trine's first victory of the season, a 12-6 win over Defiance. She followed that with a 17-save effort in a tight 11-9 loss to Ursuline. Garrett is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in her career.
The reigning MIAA Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett is once again turning in a performance that ranks among the conference leaders. She leads the MIAA in saves per game, save percentage and ground balls per game, while ranking second in the league in caused turnovers.
Trine's women's lacrosse team is 1-3 on the season. The Thunder open MIAA-play this Wednesday, Apr. 2 when they host Albion at 4:00 p.m. in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
