Hornets Pull Away to Defeat Thunder

ANGOLA, IND.-- Kalamazoo pulled away from the Trine women's lacrosse team to earn a 19-8 victory over the Thunder Wednesday afternoon in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.

The Hornets scored 11-of-12 goals over a nearly-20 minute span of play to turn a two-goal lead into a 12-point advantage and pull away to earn the victory. Anika Sproull led the way for the Hornets with five goals. Alivia DuQuet added four tallies. Taylor Gast (Akron, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) scored a career-high four goals to lead the Trine attack. Kalamazoo outshot the Thunder by a 41-25 margin. Trine falls to 1-8 overall, 0-5 in the MIAA. The Hornets are 5-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Darcy Little (Williamsburg, Ohio/Williamsburg) and Anne Mammel (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) each scored two goals for the Thunder.

After falling behind by four goals, back-to-back free position goals by Gast brought Trine back to within 6-4 with 7:51 remaining in the first half. The next 20 minutes belonged to Kalamazoo however, as the Hornets scored 11 of the next 12 goals.

Sproull scored all five of her goals during that stretch, while DuQuest added three of her four tallies. Gast scored Trine's only goal during the run.

The Thunder return to action Friday, Apr. 18 when they travel to St. Mary's for a 12:00 p.m. game.
