HOLLAND, Mich.-- The Trine women's lacrosse team was defeated by Hope, 13-3 in MIAA-action Wednesday afternoon at VanAndel Stadium.
The Flying Dutchmen scored the first 10 goals of the contest. Dana Kym scored five times and dished out an assist to pace the Hope attack. Freshman Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) scored twice to lead the Thunder attack, while Grace Garrett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) made a season-high 17 saves in a strong performance in goal. Hope outshout Trine by a 40-15 margin. The Thunder fell to 3-6 overall, 0-5 in conference play. The Dutch are now 5-6 overall and 4-1 in MIAA play.
Kym scored the first three goals of the contest for Hope. MacKenzie Bortell assisted on two of those tallies and finished with a goal and two assists. Erin Canton added a goal and two assists, while Molly Greenfield notched two goals and an assist as both players picked up three-point efforts.
Plantz also picked up three ground balls and won a pair of draw controls for Trine. Taylor Gast (Akron, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) scored a goal and notched two ground balls. Hunter Johnson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake) caused five turnovers with pressure defensively and added six ground balls.
Plantz scored both of her goals in the second half, one of which came on a free position attempt. Gast's goal also came on a free position attempt.
Hope held a 33-29 edge in ground balls and won 14-of-18 draw controls.
Trine will host Adrian this Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
