ALBION, Mich.-- The Trine women's lacrosse team was defeated by Albion, 19-2 in MIAA-action Thursday night at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.

The Britons scored the final 17 goals of the contest unanswered to pull away and earn the victory. Mackenzie Novak scored six goals and notched two assists, while Lauren Weigand added five tallies to lead Albion. Taylor Gast (Akron, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) and Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) accounted for the Thunder goals. Trine fell to 4-7 overall, 1-6 in the MIAA. Albion improved to 12-2 overall, 6-1 in conference play.

The Britons outshot the Thunder by a 37-10 margin and held a 32-13 edge in ground balls. Albion won 15-of-22 draw controls.

Goals by Plantz and Gast helped Trine hang tough through the first 15-plus minutes. Plantz scored the first goal of the contest 49 seconds in for her 19th tally of the season. Gast's goal knotted the score at two-apiece after a pair of Briton goals.

Gast's goal gave the senior 28 on the season, which ties Emily Canepa's 2011 campaign for the sixth-most in a season in team history. The senior also notched the ninth 30-point season in team history (28 goals, two assists).

After that, it was all Albion, as the Britons ran away with the victory. Albion has outscored its opponents by 114 goals this season.

Trine concludes the season this Saturday with a home contest against Olivet at 5 p.m. The Thunder will honor seniors Grace Garrett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Gast prior to the final home game of their collegiate careers.
