Thunder Drop Season-Finale to Olivet

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's lacrosse team fell to Olivet, 12-7 in the season-final Saturday afternoon in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.

The Comets scored the first six goals in the contest. Three Olivet player combined for all of the Comet goals, as Taylor Guarnaccia, Mackenzie Inman and Geri Merrell each scored four times. Taylor Gast (Akron, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) and Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) each scored three times to lead the Thunder attack. Gast finished the season with 31 goals, the fifth-most in a season in team history. Trine concluded the season 4-8 overall, with a 1-7 mark in conference games. Olivet improved to 9-6 overall, 5-3 in the MIAA.

The Thunder honored Gast, Hunter Johnson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake) and Grace Garrett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) prior to playing the final game of their Trine careers. Gast concluded her career with 75 career goals, the fifth-most in team history. She extended her team-record of free-position goals to 26.

Johnson caused two turnovers and notched a ground ball. Johnson finished her career fourth on Trine's all-time list in caused turnovers.

Garrett turned away 16-of-28 shots on goal in a superb effort in net. The senior concluded her career as the school's all-time leader in saves and wins. The two-time MIAA Defensive Player of the Year is second all-time at Trine in caused turnovers and ground balls.

Bailey Brown (Sheridan, Ind./Westfield) added a goal for the Thunder. The sophomore finished her first season playing lacrosse with four goals. 

Olivet outshot Trine by a 36-16 margin and held a 19-12 edge in ground balls.In addition to her four goals, Guarnaccia added six draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Xavier Vance made five save in 53:04 of action to earn the victory in net.
