GRAND LAKE, Colo.-- Two members of the Trine women's lacrosse team have been recognized on the 2015 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association/Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll.
Sarah Fowler (Bowling Green, Ohio/Otsego) and Hunter Johnson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake) represented Trine among the 265 student-athletes across NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA to receive the honor from the IWLCA. All student-athletes were nominated by their schools, have achieved at least junior status academically and had a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. Fowler and Johnson's performance in the classroom helped the Thunder earn prior recognition as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad.
Fowler, a mechanical engineering major, started all 12 games as a defender last season. She accumulated nine ground balls, caused five turnovers and won one draw control. Fowler has started every game the last two seasons for the Thunder.
Johnson, an exercise science/pre-physical therapy major, provided Trine with a solid two-way contributor from a midfield position in 2015. Johnson scored 10 goals and dished out two assists offensively while causing a team-high 25 turnovers. She ranks seventh on the school's all-time list in ground balls after notching 28 last year.
The IWLCA is a membership-led nonprofit association representing the nation's intercollegiate women's lacrosse coaches within Division I, II & III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
