Brown's Three Goals lead Thunder in Loss to Quakers

WILMINGTON, Ohio-- The Trine women's lacrosse team was defeated by Wilmington (Ohio) 16-5 in non-conference action Friday afternoon at Williams Stadium. 

The Fighting Quakers scored the first five goals of the game to put the Thunder in an early hole. Four players scored three goals for Wilmington to pace the attack. Abby Jude and Stephanie Balz each notched four-point games with three goals and an assist. Bailey Brown (Sheridan, Ind. / Westfield) picked up her second three-goal effort of the season to pace Trine and tie a career high. The junior also won a career-high five draw controls. The Thunder fell to 0-4 on the season. The Fighting Quakers improved to 2-4 on the season. 

Anne Mammel (Tecumseh, Mich. / Tecumseh) and Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt) added goals for Trine. Mammel won three draw controls, while Plantz notched two ground balls and caused two turnovers. Goalie Caity Rose (Hamilton, Ind. / Hamilton) made a career-high 17 saves in net, tied for the third-most in a game in team history. 

Loryn Brynson scored three goals and caused a game-high three turnovers for Wilmington. Rachel Routzong added three goals and notched three ground balls. Katie Bennett made 11 saves while playing 38:41 to earn the victory in net. 

Wilmington outshot Trine by a 46-26 and held a 26-9 edge in ground balls. The Quakers converted 3-of-10 free-position attempts. 

Brown scored the lone Thunder goal in the first half. Wilmington held an 8-1 advantage after the first 30 minutes. Routzong scored all three of her goals in the first half for the Quakers. Petra added a pair of tallies. 

Brown added two goals, both on free-position attempts in the second half. Mammel and Plantz also scored in the second half for Trine. Jude scored all three of her goals to lead the Quakers.

Trine opens MIAA play Wednesday, Apr. 6 at Calvin. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
