Poteet’s Record-Breaking Saves Push Women’s Lacrosse Past Mt. St. Joseph

ANGOLA, Ind.—Trine women's lacrosse goaltender Audrey Poteet broke the school record for saves in a game on Friday night with 25 to lead the Thunder past Mt. St. Joseph, 11-8.

The Thunder improves to 2-3 overall this season, while Mt. St. Joseph falls to 0-4.

The Lions' Madie Long put her team on the board first a little over a minute into the game.

Anne Mammel (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) and Elena Gallego (Norwalk, Calif./Santa Fe) each took advantage of Lion fouls to notch goals off free position shots.

Mt. St. Joseph came back to score three-straight goals to take a 4-2 lead.

The Thunder answered by tallying five unanswered goals, before Long scored her third goal of the game at the end of the half.

Trine held a 7-5 lead going into halftime.

Gallego scored two goals in the second half for the Thunder, while Laura Rosekrans (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) and Mammel each added one.

The Lions notched three goals but were unable to make the comeback.

Poteet improves to 2-3 earning the win with her impressive 25 saves for the Thunder. Gallego led Trine with four goals, followed by Mammel with three. Bailey Brown (Sheridan, Ind./Westfield) added two.

Long led the Lions with four goal off 14 shots. Lainee Studer added two goals. Kat Mapes took the loss making two saves in the first half. Molly Shea was in goal for the second half making three saves.

The Thunder took advantage of Mt. St. Joseph fouls scoring seven goals off 12 free position attempts. The Lions converted two goals off 16 shots. Trine edged the Lions in groundballs, 26-24.

Trine continues non-conference action on Sunday when it plays host to Ursuline at 2 p.m. on Shive Field.
