KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Trine women's lacrosse team fell in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener at Kalamazoo College on Wednesday night, 12-2.
Goaltender Audrey Poteet (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) made 20 saves to total 122 this season. She now has the third-most saves in a season in team history.
Trine moves to 2-6 and 0-1 in the MIAA, while Kalamazoo improved to 1-6 and 1-0 in conference action.
Elena Gallego (Norwalk, Calif./Santa Fe) got the Thunder on the board first almost three minutes into the game when she scored unassisted. The Hornets came back to score five goals to take a 5-1 lead into halftime.
Kalamazoo added two more tallies to start the second half, before Laura Rosekrans (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) scored on a free position shot. The Hornets followed with five more goals to take the 12-2 victory.
Bailey Brown (Sheridan, Ind./Westfield) had five shots on goal for the Thunder, while Gallego added three. Rosekrans and Poteet each had four ground balls.
The Hornets were led by Anna Dairaghi and Nicole Huff with three goals each. Vethania Stavropoulos and Amanda Moss each added two goals. Katie Johnson made eight saves in net to earn the victory.
The Thunder return home this weekend when they will play host to Saint Mary's at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
