Elmhurst Too Much For Trine

ELMHURST, ILL. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team was defeated this evening by Elmhurst College by the score of 12-8.

The Thunder started the night off right, when freshman Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) came away with the first goal of the game just under three minutes into the contest. The goal, her ninth of the season, gave Trine the early 1-0 lead.

The rest of the period would be a back and forth affair with both teams coming away with three goal runs. Trine would add second answered run of two goals to take a one goal lead. Senior Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt) joined John with two goals to lead the team to the 7-6 advantage heading into halftime. Senior Sam Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble), junior Kiersten Osowski (Granger, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and sophomore Lilly Dusek (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville) each added a goal of their own in the first half.

John would start the second period in much the same way as the first, scoring a goal just under three minutes into the half to put Trine up 8-6. It would end up being the final goal of the contest for the Thunder.

Elmhurst's Isabel Walker would lead the team to victory in the second half scoring three straight goals and assisting on the next two, as the game would end with the Thunder down 12-8.

John added two assists in addition to her three goals to end the game with a team-high five points. Plantz added one assist to end the game with three. While in goal, junior Audrey Poteet (Indianapolis, Ind. / Ben Davis) ended the contest with 11 saves.

The Thunder fall to 2-3 after the loss. They will look to bounce back on Sunday, March 18, when they face off with Augustana (Ill.) College. The game will be a home contest and is set to start at 11 a.m.
