Women's Lacrosse Falls to Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, IND. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Saint Mary's College by the score of 18-5, in their second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest of the season.

The Belles scored five early goals to take the lead and the Thunder were unable to pull even with them for the remainder of the game.

Trine did score back-to-back goals following Saint Mary's opening run. Kiersten Osowski (Granger, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) came away with the team's first goal of the contest. One minute later senior Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt) added the second to pull the Thunder within three at 5-2.

Trine would score just one more goal in the first half while the Belles would add seven. Freshman Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) came away with the goal for the Thunder, with senior Samantha Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) recording the assist. Trine entered the intermission trailing 12-3.

In the second, the Thunder would add two goals. The first came from Ihrie with an assist recorded by John. The second was Plantz's second of the contest. The Belles on the other hand, added six to finish the game with the 18-5 victory.

Junior Audrey Poteet (Indianapolis, Ind. / Ben Davis) received the start in goal for Trine and finished the contest with 22 saves.

The Thunder will look to bounce back on Wednesday, April 11, when they host Adrian College for another MIAA contest. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
