Women's Lacrosse Come Away with Home Win

ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's lacrosse team picked up their first home win of the season by defeating conference foe Adrian College by the score of 16-10.

The Thunder picked up an early 2-0 lead, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the contest. After allowing a goal to the Bulldogs, Trine built their lead to five with four straight goals. They would enter the intermission with an 8-2 lead.

Four different Thunder players picked up the eight goals. Senior Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt) and freshman Kristen John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) each recorded a pair of goals, but senior Samantha Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) lead the way with three. Sophomore Lauren Hall (Hartford City, Ind. / Blackford) was responsible for the final Thunder goal in the half.

Trine went on a three-goal streak to start the second half by building an 11-2 lead. The nine-goal differential would be the highest of the game.

Adrian responded with three goals of their own and then both teams would trade goals for the rest of the game, with Trine ending up on top by the score of 16-10.

Ihrie added to her first-half scoring with three goals in the second to finish the game with team-high six. The mark is a career high for Ihrie and ties the season individual game-high, Plantz has reached the mark twice so far this season.

Sophomore Lilly Dusek (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville), joined Plantz, John and Hall each scoring a goal in the second half to add to their season totals. Freshman Hannah Nelson (Libertyville, Ind. / Libertyville) also came away with a goal, the first of her career.

In net, junior Audrey Poteet (Indianapolis, Ind. / Ben Davis) picked up her third win of the season with a 13 save night.

Trine improves to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association following the victory. They will take the field again when they travel to Alma College on Saturday, April 14 for a 4 p.m. contest.
