Dusek Records Hat Trick as Thunder Fall 17-6

TIFFIN, Ohio – Junior Lilly Dusek (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville) tallied three goals and one assist, but it was not enough as the Trine University women's lacrosse team fell to host Heidelberg University 17-6.

The two teams started the contest in a defensive standoff with neither cracking the scoreboard for the first nine and a half minutes. Heidelberg came up with the first goal and added two more before the Thunder could respond. In total the home team went on a 7-1 streak in the first half and would not relinquish the lead again.

Trine rounded out the scoring in the first period with two goals in the final four minutes to enter the first intermission down 7-3.

The Thunder would pull within four twice in the second half, first at 8-4 and then for the final time at 11-6, before Heidelberg pulled away with the final six goals of the contest.

Dusek led the way for the Thunder with three goals and an assist in the contest. Sophomores Kirstin Nguyen (Locust Grove, Ga. / Luella) and Hannah Nelson (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) along with freshman Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich. / Henry Ford II) tallied a goal apiece to round out the scoring for Trine.

Emily Morthorst (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) played in net for the Thunder and finished the contest with 12 saves.

Trine falls to 3-2 following the loss. They will take the field again on Wednesday, March 20 when they travel to face Hanover College in a 4 p.m. contest.
