Explosive First Half too Much for Women's Lacrosse

ANGOLA, Ind. -- A strong first half by visiting Ohio Northern University was too much, as the Trine University women's lacrosse team was defeated by the score of 15-9.

Sophomore Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) tallied the first goal of the contest just 32 seconds into the game, giving the Thunder the 1-0 lead.

It would end up being the team's lone lead of the contest, as the Polar Bears scored the next six straight goals to take a 6-1 lead which they would never relinquish.

Trine would score three more goals in the first, but Ohio Northern would score five and entered halftime with the 11-4 lead.

In the second, the Thunder would once again score first. This time freshman Chloe Vruno (Geneva, Ill. / St. Francis) scored her first of the season to pull the Thunder within six at 11-5.

The two teams would spend the rest of the game trading goals and the Polar Bears ended on top 15-9.

John finished the game with a team-high five goals. Joining Vruno with a goal apiece were freshman Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich. / Henry Ford II), senior Lauren Hall (Hartford City, Ind. / Blackford) and sophomore Kristen Nguyen (Locust Grove, Ga. / Luella).

Hall also led the way defensively for the Thunder, finishing the contest with team-high tallies of seven ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Trine falls to 4-4 following the loss. They will host Albion College for their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match on Saturday, March 30. The contest is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
