Thunder Outpaced by Britons

ANGOLA, Ind. -- An early flurry from visiting Albion College was too much for the Trine University women's lacrosse team as they fell in their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opener by the score of 18-5.

The Britons went on a scoring streak to start the contest, coming up with the first nine goals to take a 9-0 lead.

The Thunder found the back of the net for the first time with just over 16 minutes remaining in the first half. The goal came from sophomore Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) who received a quick pass from teammate Lilly Dusek (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville) and buried it in the net.

Freshman Chloe Vruno (Geneva, Ill. / St. Francis) added another goal for Trine seven minutes later to pull the team closer again. John would follow it up with another goal to bring the Thunder within six at 9-3.

The Britons then went on another nine-goal run that stretched into the second half to take an 18-3 lead with nine minutes remaining in the game.

Trine freshman Peri Darmofal (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) came up with her first goal of the contest with five minutes remaining with classmate Mia Schlueter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carrol) adding an assist.

The final goal of the contest came with just under three minutes remaining as John passed the ball inside to a waiting Lauren Hall (Hartford City, Ind. / Blackford) who came up with her first goal of the day.

The Thunder fall to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in MIAA play following the 18-5 loss. They will continue their season when they host Saint Mary's College on Saturday, April 6. The MIAA matchup is set to start at 4 p.m.
