Thunder Finish Season at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Trine University women's lacrosse team finished the season with a loss to host Hope College by the score of 19-3.

The Thunder defense held strong for the first eight minutes of the contest keeping the opposition scoreless. In the ninth minute of the contest however, the Flying Dutch started to find the weak spots and scored four goals of the next six minutes. All told they would score ten in the first half taking a 10-0 lead into the intermission.

Hope picked up where they left off in the second half scoring nine more unanswered goals to build their lead to 19-0.

Trine scored their first goal of the contest with just under five minutes remaining in the contest. Sophomore Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) scored the goal and then added another a few minutes later to end the game with a team-high two. Senior Lauren Hall (Hartford City, Ind. / Blackford) finished off the scoring for the Thunder with a goal in the final minute of play and the Thunder fell 19-3.

Sophomore Emily Morthorst (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) played the game in net for Trine and finished with 16 saves.

With the two goals in the game, John finishes the season with 67 points including 54 goals and 13 assists. Those totals are historic for the team as she now owns four season records at Trine including most goals, most points, points per game (4.47) and goals per game (3.60). Her season assists total is third highest in program history. She currently owns a share of the career assists record (21) and sits in second for in both points (113) and goals (92) after just her second season.

The Thunder fall to 6-10 overall and 2-6 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). They finish the season seventh in the standings.
