Schlueter Nabs All-MIAA Honors

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University women's lacrosse freshman defender Mia Schlueter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) picked up her first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors as she garnered second team All-MIAA honors, the association announced today.

Schlueter becomes just the second player, and the first freshman, to earn second team honors from the MIAA, following in the footsteps of last year's Rebecca Plantz who nabbed the honor as a midfielder.

Schlueter finished the season with third best for the Thunder with 33 ground balls while also adding eight caused turnovers. She also finished with five points including three goals and two assists. But Schlueter's contribution to the team goes well beyond her stat line.

"I am extremely proud of the player that Mia became this season," says head coach Madeline Dugan, "She has worked very hard to get better and became a strong defender for our team even if it doesn't always show up on the stat sheet."

One prominent example came against Alma College. With the team trailing the opposition 8-2 Schlueter came up with a caused turnover in the defensive end and collected the groundball herself. She then took it the length of the field, splitting the defense and scored her first goal of the season. The goal spurred on the Thunder who would go on to complete a comeback victory with the score of 17-16.
