Women's Lacrosse Scores Eight in Opening Contest

ADA, Ohio -- The Trine University women's lacrosse team scored eight goals in their opening contest but fell by the score of 14-8 to their hosts from Ohio Northern University.

The Thunder started strong scoring the first two goals of the contest. Sophomore Chloe Vruno (Geneva, Ill. / St. Francis) scored the first goal of the season in just the second minute of the game. Junior Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) added the second just over a minute later.

From there the Polar Bears found their offense and went on to score the next eight goals. Vruno added another goal in the final seconds of the half and the team entered the intermission trailing 8-3.

Ohio Northern continued to roll offensively going on a 5-1 run to start the second half. The lone goal for Trine came from John with 26 minutes left in the period.

The Thunder went on a run of their own with four straight goals. Senior Lilly Dusek (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville), junior Shea Rayburn (Attica, Ind. / Attica) and freshman Josie Prince (St. Charles, Mo. / Francis Howell Central) joined Vruno in tallying goals in the stretch.

The Polar Bears scored the final goal of the contest in the final minutes of play and the Thunder came up short 14-8.

Trine starts the season 0-1. They will take the field again on Saturday, Feb. 29 with a home match against Hanover College. Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
