Morthorst Named MIAA Athlete of the Week

FREELAND, Mich. -- Senior Emily Morthorst (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) women's lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week.

This is the second time in her career that Morthorst has earned the award and the first time this season for the Thunder.

Morthorst didn't get the start in the team's first game of the past week but instead came in for the second half of a contest with Alma College. She posted eight saves in her thirty minutes of work and held the line for the team's 15-9 victory.

She then played all 60 minutes of a tight contest with Saint Mary's College to finish off the week. The Thunder ended up coming away with a 14-12 win, the first in program history over the Belles. Morthorst finished the game with 17 saves and the win.

Overall she finished the week with a .595 save percentage.
