Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away from Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team pulled away in the second half to take a 16-9 victory from Adrian College in their last road game of the season.

The Bulldogs got off to a strong start in the contest scoring the first three goals of the game over the first six minutes of play. They would hold a 3-0 lead with 20 minutes remaining in the first half

The Thunder came up with their first goal with just over 19 minutes remaining in the half. Sophomore Ella Dougherty (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) scored the goal with an assist from junior Liv Ghent (Byron Center, Mich. / Caledonia).

In the 14th minute of the half, Trine came up with a pair of goals to tie the game at three. Sophomore Josie Prince (St. Charles, Mo. / Francis Howell Central) and freshman Danielle Gargiulo (Downers Grove, Ill. / Downers Grove) tallied the goals for the team.

Adrian took back the lead at the 15:20 mark, but a goal by freshman Alyssa Keptner (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) tied the game at four. It was a short-lived tie as Adrian scored again to take a 5-4 lead with 14:15 remaining in the half.

In the final 11 minutes of the half, the Thunder got the offense rolling, outscoring the opposition 5-1 in those final minutes to take a 9-6 lead into the intermission.

The second half started with the teams trading goals before the Thunder would go on a 6-1 run to finish out the game with the win.

Ghent led the way offensively for the Thunder finishing with three goals and three assists, both tallies led the team. Dougherty also finished with three goals and added two assists.

Junior Jillian Rejczyk (Wauconda, Ill. / Wauconda) started the contest in net for Trine and recorded the win as well as 10 saves.

The team improves to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. They will continue their season by hosting Alma College on Tuesday, March 30. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
