ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's lacrosse team was outpaced by visiting Kalamazoo College falling in the contest by the score of 22-15.

The Thunder struck first in the contest with a goal just 23 seconds into the contest. Freshman Alyssa Keptner (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) scored the tally with classmate Danielle Gargiulo (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) adding an assist.

The lead was a short one as the Hornets responded with their own goal just 27 seconds later. The goal signaled an immediate shift in the contest as the opposition's offense began to roll against the Trine defense. Kalamazoo would score 14 goals in the first half, while the Thunder were only able to mount eight goals of their own.

Trine regrouped at halftime and found an offensive rhythm of their own as they would match the Hornets goal-for-goal in the second period. The defensive struggles continued however and the Thunder would fall in the contest 22-15.

The freshmen who combined for the first goal of the game had career days in the contest. Gargiulo finished the game with a team-high five goals and added an assist. Keptner came in right behind her finishing with four goals.

Three other members of the Thunder finished the game with two goals each including junior Liv Ghent (Byron Center, Mich. / Caledonia) and seniors Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) and Kristen Nguyen (Locust Grove, Ga. / Luella). John would also lead the team with four assists in the contest, while Ghent finished with two.

The team falls to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play following the loss. They will finish off the regular season by hosting Calvin University on Saturday, April 17. The contest is set to begin at 1 p.m.
