HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Trine University women's lacrosse team played a tight contest with their hosts from Hope College but ultimately fell by the score of 20-12 to exit the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Lacrosse Tournament.

The Flying Dutch came up with the first three goals of the contest, but the Thunder responded with a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the contest with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half at 4-3. Four different student-athletes scored goals during the stretch including freshmen Alyssa Keptner (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) and Danielle Gargiulo (Downers Grove, Ill. / Downers Grove), junior Liv Ghent (Byron Center, Mich. / Caledonia) and senior Kristen Nguyen (Locust Grove, Ga. / Luella).

The two teams traded a goal each over the next four minutes with Trine holding the one-goal lead again at 5-4. Hope would then score two straight in the 24th minute of the half to take the lead 6-5. The Thunder tied the goal on the back of Keptner's second goal of the game, but the Flying Dutch would then go on a 3-0 run to take a 9-6 lead. Keptner tallied one more goal to pull back within two as the teams entered halftime 9-7.

Hope started the second half on a 5-2 run spanning ten minutes. Trine would trade goals over the final 20 minutes of the contest but was unable to close the gap and would drop the contest 20-12.

Keptner and Gargiulo would lead the team with three goals each. Senior Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) led the team with two assists while also adding a goal to her career total.

The Thunder finish the season with a 5-9 overall record.
