Richmond's Records Lead Thunder to 17-3 Victory

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team picked up another Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) victory with a lopsided performance against Adrian College ending with a score of 17-3.

The standout in the contest was freshman Calista Richmond (Portage, Mich. / Portage) who turned in a record-breaking offensive performance. She finished the game with three goals and eight assists for a total of 11 points. Her eight assists break her own record from earlier this season for assists in a game and her 11 points ties the record for an individual game.

The Thunder started the contest on a six-goal run building a commanding lead early on. Freshman Brooke Hoag (Portage, Mich. / Portage) came up with the first goal just 24 seconds into the game and junior Ella Dougherty (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) would tally the second just 24 seconds after that. Richmond assisted on both of the goals.

Also scoring in the first quarter was senior Liv Ghent (Byron Center, Mich. / Caledonia) with a pair and Richmond with one of her goals. Hoag would finish off the run for the team with her second of the day.

The second quarter saw the team build their lead outscoring the Bulldogs seven to one. Ghent would start the quarter with her third goal of the day. Freshman Paige Hull (New Lenox, Ill. / Lincoln Way West) and sophomore Alyssa Keptner (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) would both score two in the period with sophomore Danielle Gargiulo (Downers Grove, Ill. / Downers Grove) and Richmond adding the rest.

Trine would score two more in each of the second half's quarters to build their lead to the final 17-3. Richmond and Dougherty accounted for the third period goals while Ghent and freshman Elle Mizwicki (Homer Glen, Ill. / Lockport Township) took care of the fourth.

Defensively the team was led by freshman Maddy Kasten (Battle Creek, Mich. / Lakeview) who received the start in net and played three quarters. She compiled six saves in the game allowing just the three goals while also adding three groundballs.

The team posted ten caused turnovers in the game with three student-athletes coming up with two each. Ghent, Richmond and Hoag where the three to finish the game with two all leading the team. Hoag would also finish the contest with nine draw controls and five groundballs both leading the team.

Trine improves to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play following the victory. They will continue their season when they travel to face Alma College on Sunday, April 24 with opening draw scheduled for 1 p.m.
