Four Earn All-MIAA From Trine Women's Lacrosse

FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced the All-MIAA Selections for the 2022 women's lacrosse season. The Trine University women's lacrosse team saw four student-athletes honored prior to the start of their semi-final game.

Earning First Team All-MIAA and Rookie of the Year is freshman attack Calista Richmond [Portage, Mich. / Portage]. Richmond highlighted her first season in a Trine uniform by breaking the school record for assists in a season and career. She is second in the conference with 42 in the regular season. Her 29 goals give her 71 points in 2022, the second-most on the team. She is also second on the team with a shot-on-goal percentage of 85.0%. Richmond's 11 points on eight assists in the 17-3 win at Adrian on April 19 tied the school record for most points and broke the record for most assists in a game.

Also garnering First Team All-MIAA honors is senior midfielder Liv Ghent [Byron Center, Mich. / Caledonia]. Ghent became the program's single season recordholder with 68 goals (18 free-position goals) and 80 points in the 2022 season. She will graduate with the highest points per game total, and is collecting 5.71 points per game this season. Her 68 goals scored puts her fourth in the MIAA. Overall, she has totaled 48 draw controls, 28 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. In the regular season finale at Albion, Ghent controlled 13 draws, the most in a game in program history.

Representing Trine as an All-MIAA Second Team recipient is freshman midfielder Brooke Hoag [Portage, Mich. / Portage]. Hoag has scored 23 goals this season and been critical on the defensive side of the ball for the Thunder. She has caused a team-high 19 turnovers this year and led the team in draw controls with 56. She was also second for Trine in ground balls with 34. In the win at Adrian, Hoag recorded season-highs in ground balls (5) and draw controls (9). Hoag and Ghent swept MIAA Athlete of the Week honors on April 18.

Joining Hoag on Second Team All-MIAA is senior defender Madison Howard [Stockbridge, Mich. / Stockbridge]. Howard has been a key piece to a defense that allowed single-digit goals by opponents in seven of the team's 14 games. The senior started all 14 games and has caused 13 turnovers this season. She has also picked up 12 ground balls and tallied three draw controls in 2022. Howard showed up in a big way in crucial games for the Thunder this season. She caused a season-high three turnovers in a one-goal victory against Calvin and had two more in last week's overtime victory at home versus Saint Mary's College.
