Women's Lacrosse Sweeps Weekend

HANOVER, Ind. – The Trine University women's lacrosse tam won their third consecutive game on Saturday with a 19-4 victory on the road at Hanover College. The Thunder are now 4-1 in 2024 while the Panthers fall to 2-5.

Trine went on the attack offensively right from the opening whistle and led 5-0 before five minutes of game time. Danielle Gargiulo had three of the five scores for Trine during that span. At the end of the first quarter, it was an 8-1 lead for the visitors thanks to goals by Calista Richmond, Alyssa Lahutsky and Courtney Rhodes late in the first.

The second quarter was more of the same as the Thunder won that 15-minute segment 7-1 and took a 15-2 lead into halftime. Brooke Hoag and Elizabeth Larson scored in the first two minutes of the second quarter before Hanover was able to answer with a score to make it 10-2. The final ten minutes were all Trine with Richmond scoring or assisting on three of five goals.

With the result well in hand, the Thunder looked to Sienna Coventry to finish the game in net. She would make one save on three shots faced in the second half. Maddy Kasten (4-1) was credited with three saves.

Lillian O'Neal found the back of the net to begin the third quarter and Avelyn McCall added her name to the scorebook with a goal on a free position attempt with less than six minutes to go in the quarter. The teams would trade scores in the fourth quarter, the one for Trine belonging to Claire Schmaltz in the 19-4 victory.

In total, the Thunder were in control of the draw circle to the tune of 21-5. The team also held an 18-11 edge in ground balls and took 29 shots to the Panthers' 11. Richmond tallied six points on three goals and three assists while Gargiulo had three goals as well and led the team with six draw controls. Hoag caused seven turnovers, one off her season-high mark.

Trine returns home for their next game against Franklin College on Sunday, March 17 beginning at 1 p.m.
