Thunder Downed by Fighting Scots

ANGOLA, Ind. – In the team's final non-conference game of the year, the Trine University women's lacrosse team lost to the College of Wooster 20-10 to fall to 6-3 on the season while the Fighting Scots move to 8-1 overall.

Wooster led 5-2 after quarter number one and scored the game's first three goals. Elizabeth Larson broke up the scoring run with two minutes remaining in the period and Brooke Hoag added one near the end of the frame.

While down a man, Courtney Rhodes netted a goal from Calista Richmond to make the score 5-3, but five of the next six scores belonged to the opponents. Goalkeeper Maddy Kasten (5-3) and the Trine defense kept the Fighting Scots off the board for the final six minutes of the first half as Trine trimmed the deficit to 10-6 at the break.

Wooster flexed their muscles in the third quarter and claimed a 16-8 lead with 15 minutes left to play. A goal while up a man by Hoag from Alyssa Lahutsky would highlight the period for the Thunder. Lillian O'Neal would do the same while up one in the fourth quarter, but the game would conclude with the Fighting Scots doubling up Trine for the final score of 20-10.

Richmond's five points paced the offense and Hoag tied for the team lead in goals scored with three. Kasten (5) and Alyssa Keptner (4) had the most ground balls for Trine. Kasten had 14 saves in net. Wooster dominated the draw control circle 23-10, and that led to a 44-29 difference in shots.

Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) begins on Friday, April 5 when the Thunder face Adrian College on the road. The opening draw control is set for 4 p.m.
