ANGOLA, IND.-- Trine's wrestling team was defeated by no. 8 Wabash, 42-10, Thursday evening in Hershey Hall.
Michael Conner (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) and Brandon Preston (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) picked up wins for the Thunder. Conner (197 lbs) pinned Ben Farmer in 4:38 to pick up his victory. Conner built a convincing lead before coming away with the pin. The sophomore improved his record to 21-10 on the season. Preston controlled his match throughout, winning 12-2 by major decision over Robbie Carter. The junior was awarded the first nine points of the match, highlighted by a near-fall. Preston improved to 21-11 this season with the victory.
Ian Kelton (285), Josh Sampson (165) and Riley Lefever (184) each won by fall for the eighth-ranked Little Giants. Lefever is ranked no. 2 in the nation, while Sampson is ranked sixth in his class.
Trine returns to action when they travel to the Mid-States Tournament this Saturday, Feb. 15. The tournament is being hosted by Wabash College.
