ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine wrestling team has released their schedule for the 2014-15 season, the team announced Tuesday.
The Thunder will compete in 11 regular-season tournaments and four dual matches. Trine will compete in front of a home crowd three times in Hershey Hall this winter. The season begins Saturday, Nov. 8 as the TU wrestlers will travel to Muskegon Community College for the Ben McMullen Open. The Thunder struggled with injuries as a whole last season, but still found individual success on the mats as heavyweight Mack Green (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan) placed fifth in the nation at the National Championships to earn All-American honors. Brandon Preston (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) advanced to the National Championship meet for the second-consecutive season after placing third in the 133-lb class at the Midwest Regional.
Trine will host an Invitational Nov. 15 as part of the their home schedule. The event will feature many of the top Division III schools from across the Midwest in a tournament setting. The Thunder will also host dual matches against Manchester (Jan. 23) and Alma (Feb. 6).
The schedule also includes return trips to the Ohio Northern Invitational (Dec. 6), Midwest Classic (Dec. 13-14), Pete Willson Invitational (Jan. 30-31) and Mid-States Invitational (Feb. 28). Trine will once again face Wabash in a dual match as well (Feb. 12). The Budd Whitehill Duals (Jan. 9-10) open the 2015 calendar year.
New to the schedule this season are the Concordia (Wisc.) Open (Nov. 22), Al Hanke Invitational (Jan. 17) and Alma College Open (Jan. 24). The Thunder will also travel to Elmhurst for a dual match (Nov. 18).
The season concludes with the Midwest Regional Feb. 28. Any Trine wrestler that finishes in the top three of their class at the Regional will have the opportunity to move on to the NCAA Division III National Championships, which will be held Mar. 13-14 in Hershey, Pa.
