Three Wrestlers Place at ONU Invitational

ADA, OHIO-- Three Trine wrestlers placed in the Ohio Northern Invitational, held Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.

Mack Green (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan) went 5-1 on the day to finish third in the Heavyweight division. Michael Conner (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) earned two pins on his way to a fifth-place finish at 197-lbs, while Collin Haag (Manitou Beach, Mich./Addison) won three matches to finish seventh in the 141-lb class. The performances were enough to lead Trine to an 11th-place finish in the event.

All five of Green's wins came by decision, and included a victory over a Division-II opponent from Tiffin University. The senior saw his 15-match win-streak snapped by Cody Lovejoy of Ohio Northern in a match of two of the top-five heavyweights in the nation. Green entered the match ranked third, while Lovejoy was ranked fifth. Green is now 19-2 on the season.

Conner finished the day 4-2 in contested matches to earn his fifth-place finish. Conner pinned two opponents, one of which came in the first period. He also picked up a win by decision before winning the fifth-place match by injury default in 2:18.

Haag placed in an event for the first-time in his collegiate career. The freshman finished 2-2 in contested matches. His wins included a decision, and a dominating win by major decision (14-0).

Jeffrey Helm (Westfield, Ind./Westfield), Cody Konieczki (Jackson, Mich./Michigan Center), Nick Klemm (Adrian, Mich./Madison), and Kerry Raab (Moores Hill, Ind./South Dearborn) each added wins on the afternoon for the Thunder.

Trine returns to action when they head to the Midwest Classic at the University of Indianapolis next weekend. Wrestling gets underway Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m.
