ANGOLA, Ind.-- Trine droped a close match to Manchester, 21-19, on Senior Night Friday night in Hershey Hall.
The Thunder got victories from Brandon Preston (Logansport, Ind./Logansport), Jeffrey Helm (Westfield, Ind./Westfield), Cody Konieczki (Jackson, Mich./Michigan Center), Michael Conner (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) and Mack Green (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan). Trine actually won more contested matches than the Spartans, but Manchester received six points due to a forfeit at 184-lbs. Trine falls to 2-8 in dual matches on the season.
Konieczki picked up Trine's lone pin on the evening, earning the fall in 4:12. The sophomore's last four wins have all come via pin. Konieczki took the lead early via two takedowns before earning the pin.
Preston picked up his 10th win of the season, with tonight's coming by major decision. The senior earned 10 of his 12 points via takedown, with other two awarded due to riding time.
Helm and Green each won their matches by 2-0 decision. Each wrestler picked up their points via an escape and ride time. Green's win was his 25th of the season. He is ranked as the second-best heavyweight in the nation by D3Wrestle.com.
Conner added a 6-0 victory by decision. His performance included two takedowns and an escape.
Trine returns to action Jan. 30-31 at Wheaton College's Pete Willson Invitational.
