ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine wrestling team has released its schedule for the 2015-16 season, the team announced Monday.
The Thunder will see an increase in dual matches this season, with six on the schedule as well as three tournaments that include duals. Trine will also wrestle four times in front of the home fans the season, including three duals and the Trine Invitational (Nov. 14). The season will open Saturday, Nov. 7 as the team travels to Muskegon Community College's Ben McMullen Open for the third-straight year.
The home dual schedule will include a match against Wabash, which finished the 2014-15 season ranked second in the nation. The Thunder will also host Olivet and Elmhurst. Road trips for duals include Manchester, Alma and first-year program Adrian.
The tournament schedule includes return trips to the Olivet College Comet Duals, Ohio Northern Invitational, Budd Whitehill Duals, Al Hanke Invitational, Pete Willson Invitational and Mid-States Invitational. Trine will also be returning to the University of Chicago Duals, which the team last competed in during the 2013-14 campaign.
Trine wrestlers will once again look to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships as they compete for a Midwest Regional title at Wabash College (Feb. 27). The top three wrestlers in each class advance to the national meet, which will be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this year.
The Thunder finished last season 2-11 in dual meets as the team largely fielded a young roster. The team will be looking for improvement from its returning core to replace graduated national qualifiers Mack Green and Brandon Preston.
