WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.-- The Trine wrestling team matched up with a ranked opponent and several nationally-ranked individual wrestlers in day one of the Budd Whitehill Duals, held Friday at Lycoming College.
The Thunder fell to no. 16 Williams College, 37-15 and also suffered defeats at the hands of Lycoming, 41-6 and Millikin, 49-5. Trine wrestlers faced four nationally-ranked wrestlers, including two All-Americans from last year. The Thunder fell to 1-9 in duals this season.
Jeffrey Helm (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) saw the most success of any Thunder wrestler on the day. The 141-lb wrestler finished the day 2-1, earning wins by decision and tech fall. The sophomore scored a 6-5 victory in a hard-fought match against Lycoming and earned a dominating 21-4 tech fall in the final match of the day against Millikin. Helm improved his record to 9-8 on the season.
Jaycee Jensen (Burns Harbor, Ind./Chesterton) notched Trine's lone pin of the day, winning by fall in 3:21 over an opponent from Williams. The sophomore has pinned three opponents on the year.
Michael Conner (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) and Caleb Maddox (Russiaville, Ind./Western) each added wins by decision for the Thunder.
Trine is guaranteed two duals tomorrow. The Thunder will wrestler Rochester Institute of Technology before squaring off against either Ohio Northern or King's (Pa.)
