Maddox Leads Thunder in Midwest Regional

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.-- Caleb Maddox notched a pair of wins to lead the performance of the Trine wrestling team in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Saturday at Wabash College.

Maddox (Russiaville, Ind./Western) picked up two wins by decision before being eliminated. He opened the day with a 4-0 win by decision, which included an escape and takedown in the third period. The freshman dropped into the consolation half of the bracket after being pinned in his second match of the day, but he was able to rally to keep his chances alive. Maddox responed with a controlling 6-1 decision over Adrian's Austin Eldred, which once again featured three points of scoring in the final period. Maddox was locked in a 3-3 dual with Manchester's Kalib Jackson in the second period before being pinned in 3:47 to conclude his season.

Maddox's performance wrapped up a successful freshman campaign that saw the 133-lb'er finish the year with a team-best record of 26-15. Maddox pinned eight opponents this season as he established himself as a big part of the future of Thunder wrestling.

Jeffrey Helm (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) added a victory in a stacked 141-lb class. The sophomore was pinned in his first match of the day, but rallied to earn a 6-1 victory over Ohio Northern's Dylan Dolph to stay alive. Helm then locked into a highly-competitive match with Manchester University's Chase Wilson, but was defeated by a 6-5 decision after a third-period rally by Wilson. Helm concluded his season 14-12 overall.

Jaycee Jensen (Burns Harbor, Ind./Chesterton) pinned his second opponent of day. Jensen pinned Max Dole of Ohio Northern in 4:25 for the lone Thunder pin of the day. The sophomore finished the season with four of his eight wins coming by pin.

The NCAA Division III Midwest Regional concluded the 2015-16 season for the Trine wrestling team.
