Thunder Wrestling Announces 2016-17 Schedule

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine wrestling team has announced its schedule for the 2016-17 season, the team announced today.

The season opens Saturday, Nov. 5 with a home match against Alma. If weather conditions allow, the dual will be contested outdoors in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium prior to a matchup between the Thunder football team and the Scots. The match could be one of just a handful of NCAA wrestling events ever contested outdoors. There are currently no other NCAA Division III wrestling matches scheduled to be held outdoors this season.

The home-opener is one of four opportunities Trine will have to compete at home this season. The following weekend, the Thunder will host its annual Trine Invitational event in Keith E. Busse / Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center. The event typically draws upwards of eight teams.

Trine will also host Adrian and Manchester in dual meets. Following a successful inaugural event, the Thunder plan to host a Military Appreciation Night at one of its duals this season. More details on the date and activities associated with Military Appreciation Night will be announced at a later time.

New to the schedule is a road trip the Washington & Lee Duals in Lexington, Va. Trine will make return trips to the Olivet College Comet Duals, Ohio Northern Invitational, University of Chicago Duals, Budd Whitehill Duals, Pete Willson Invitational and Mid-States Invitational. The Thunder will also travel to Olivet for a dual match.

The regular season concludes with the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. Any Trine wrestler to finish in the top three of their weight class would advance to the NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championships, set for Mar. 10-11 in LaCrosse, Wis.
