Maddox Picks Up Win in Wrestling's Loss at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill.—The Trine wrestling team dropped a 39-3 dual at Elmhurst on Wednesday night. At 149 pounds, Caleb Maddox picked up the win for the Thunder.

Maddox (Russiaville, Ind./Western) and Caleb Ramos traded shots back and forth early in the first period. Ramos came out on top with a takedown. The Thunder sophomore took advantage of a restart and sprang to his feet for an escape. Maddox took a 3-2 lead with a takedown at the edge of the mat with time expiring. Ramos chose down to start the second, and Maddox returned him to the mat a few times before the Blue Jays' wrestler earned the escape to tie the bout at three all. Maddox almost had another take down at the end of the second, but time had expired. The Thunder wrestler escaped to open the third. Maddox defended Ramos' shots, but the Blue Jays' wrestler took him down to the mat. Maddox won the bout after immediately reversing him to win, 6-5.

Trine falls to 0-2 in duals this season, while Elmhurst improves to 2-0.

The Thunder returns to action this weekend at the Olivet Duals on Nov. 19. Trine will take on Otterbein, University of Indianapolis and Davenport.
