FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The Trine wrestling team competed at day one of the DIII Midwest Regional Championships on Friday. Brendan Stevens and Austin Farrell have advanced to day two.
Stevens (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) competed at 125 pounds. He opened the day by pinning Clark Moziah of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to advance to the quarterfinals. Stevens lost in the quarterfinals, but rallied back in the consolation round to win by technical fall over Alma's Parr-Besem. Stevens will take on Transue from Ohio Northern.
Farrell (Hopkins, Mich./Allegan) wrestled at 174 pounds. The freshman opened the day by pinning Wabash's Darden Schurg, but lost in the quarterfinals. Farrell bounced back by defeating Cody Nielsen of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Brandon Gay (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg), Jaycee Jensen (Burns Harbor, Ind./Chesterton) and Anthony Neal (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) each notched one win on the day.
Day two action will continue on Saturday, Feb. 25 begins at 10 a.m.
