ANGOLA, IND. -- Sophomores Jacob Taylor (Battle Creek, Mich./Battle Creek Central) and Anthony Neal (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) both placed second in their respective weight classes as the Trine University wrestling team placed fifth overall at the Trine University Invitational held at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind.
Trine finished the event with 49.5 points to place fifth of 11 teams. North Central (Ill.) College took first in the standings with 119.5 points and was followed by Baldwin Wallace University in second place with 96 points. Olivet (Mich.) College rounded out the top three schools with 86 points.
Taylor ended the day with a 3-1 record at 174 pounds which included a pair of pins in his first and third matches. Taylor pinned BW's Adam Green in a time of 4:47 in his first match and then followed that with a win against the University of Chicago's Aiden Reynolds by technical fall, 18-1. He advanced to the first-place match by pinning Ronnell McGhee from Muskegon Community College (1:22), but would fall in the title bout to BW's Grant Rathburn to finish as runner-up.
At 197 pounds, Neal advanced to the championship match with back-to-back decisions against Baker Hadwan from Muskegon Community College, 4-3, and Timothy Blickle of Wheaton (Ill.) College, 7-3. Neal then fell short in the first-place match, 8-2, to Tyler Vittal of North Central.
Trine will next host a quad match on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center. The Thunder will face Lakeland (Wisc.) College, Thomas (Ky.) More College and MacMurray (Ill.) College with the day scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
