Wrestling Finishes with Two Victories at Thunder Duals

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University wrestling team finished 2-1 in the Thunder Duals at Hershey Hall.  The Thunder defeated Ancilla (Ind.) Community College, 31-21, and MacMurray (Ill.) College, 45-9.

Against Ancilla, Trine won six of 10 individual matches.  Sophomore Brendan Stevens (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) and sophomore Anthony Neal (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) both pinned their opponents to win their respective matches.  Stevens pinned his opponent in the 133-pound matchup in a time of 2:27 to claim six points for the Thunder.  Neal won via a pin at 197-pounds in a time of 5:36.  Sophomore Austin Farrell (Hopkins, Mich./Allegan) captured five team points in his bout at 184 pounds with a technical fall, 20-4.  Freshman Nick Potter (New Haven, Ind./New Haven) and sophomore Nick Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) were both victorious by major decision in their matches at 165 and 174 pounds with scores of 12-2 and 16-8.  The other victory for the Thunder came at 125 pounds by way of a forfeit allowing freshman Clinton Wells (El Paso, Texas/Parkland) to claim six points for the team as Trine went on to the 31-21 victory against the Chargers.

In the match against MacMurray, Farrell recorded a pin at 197 pounds, defeating his opponent in a time of 6:24.  The Thunder went on to win seven other matches with Nick Miller and sophomore Luke Carver (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) also defeated their opponents by pin with Nick Miller winning in a time of 6:36 and Carver winning in 2:20.  Sophomore Zach Saylor (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) won his heavyweight bout by decision with a final score of 4-2.  The four remaining match victories for the Thunder at 125, 133, 157 and 165 were won by forfeit as Trine won, 45-9.

Trine had a competitive match against Thomas More (Ky.) College, but would fall short against the Saints, 20-16.  The Thunder claimed six points with a forfeit at 125 pounds.  Senior Jeffrey Helm (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) scored four points at 149 pounds with a major decision, 11-0.  The remaining two victories for Trine came by way of a decision at 165 and 285 pounds.  Junior Luis Chacon (New Haven, Ind./New Haven) won, 7-5, at 165 pounds and Saylor won his second match of the day, 3-1. 

Trine will next compete in the Ohio Northern University Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 2 in Ada, Ohio.  The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
