Trine Posts Pair of Victories at W&L Duals

LEXINGTON CITY, VA.  -- The Trine University wrestling team posted a pair of team victories to end the Washington & Lee University Duals with a 2-1 mark.  The Thunder recorded a 29-20 win against Muskingum University and defeated Southern Virginia University, 44-6.

In Trine's first match of the day against Washington & Lee, four Thunder competitors won their individual matches, including one via a pin by sophomore Anthony Neal (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) who defeated his 197-pound opponent in a time of 1:13.  Luke Carver posted a decisive victory in his 184-pound bout, winning by technical fall, 17-0.  Brendan Stevens and Riley Rasler rounded out the victories for Trine with a pair of decisions with Stevens going on to win, 4-0, at 125-pounds and Rasler won, 12-3, in his 157-pound matchup.

Against Muskingum, the Thunder won five individual matchups, including one by forfeit.  Freshman Davynn Schneider (Alleghan, Mich./Alleghan), sophomore Jacob Taylor (Battle Creek, Mich./Battle Creek Central) and Neal all won their matches via pinfall.  Schneider pinned his opponent at 133 pounds in a time of 2:54, while Taylor recorded a pin in a time of 1:17 at 174 pounds and Neal captured his second pin of the day at 197 pounds with a time of 5:07.  Rasler also recorded his second victory of the event by defeating his opponent by tech fall, 18-2, in his 157-pound bout.

Trine ended the meet with a convincing win against Southern Virginia, capturing victories in all but two matches with five wins coming by way of a forfeit.  Freshman Efrain Amezquita (Twelve Mile, Ind./Caston) highlighted the overall match with a pin at 149 pounds in a time of 2:19.  Taylor was again victorious in his 174-pound weight class for his second overall win of the day, this time by decision, 10-8.  Sophomore Austin Farrell (Hopkins, Mich./Allegan) wrapped up his day with a tech fall at 184 pounds and a final score of 22-3.

The Trine wrestlers will be idle until Saturday, Jan. 6 when they travel to Alma (Mich.) College for a dual match against the Scots.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
