ADRIAN, MICH. -- The Trine University wrestling team posted a convincing win against Adrian (Mich.) College, 33-10, in a dual meet at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center in Adrian, Mich.
With the win, the Thunder improve their dual meet record to 6-2 this season and have now won four straight.
Trine captured eight of the 10 individual matches which began with a forfeit victory right at the start at 125 pounds that gave the Thunder an early 6-0 lead. In the very next match at 133 pounds, freshman Davynn Schneider (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) picked up another six points with a pin against Adrian's Dominic Paterra to make the score 12-0. He needed 1:51 to win by pin.
Junior Caleb Maddox (Russiaville, Ind./Western) kept the early momentum going for Trine in his 141-pound bout and won by decision with a score of 11-4 to increase the Trine lead to a commanding, 15-0.
Following a win by Adrian at 149 pounds via major decision that put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard, the Thunder won the next five matchups that included a pin by sophomore Austin Farrell (Hopkins, Mich./Allegan), his team-leading sixth of the season, at 184 pounds in a time of 1:35.
Sophomores Jacob Taylor (Battle Creek, Mich./Battle Creek Central), Anthony Neal (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) and freshmen Riley Rasler (LaGrange, Ind./Prairie Heights) and Brandon Minear (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) all won their respective matches by decision as the Thunder went on to win the overall match by the final score of 33-10.
Trine will next travel to North Manchester, Ind. to take part in the Manchester University Spartan Mat Classic on Saturday, Jan. 13. The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
