ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University wrestling team fell to Olivet (Mich.) College, 28-13, in the final home meet of the season at Hershey Hall.
Trine (6-3) fell behind early losing by pin and a technical fall in the first two bouts of the night giving Olivet (14-4) an 11-0 advantage. Junior Caleb Maddox (Russiaville, Ind./Western) recorded the first victory for the Thunder in his 141-pound matchup against Olivet's Andre Bourlier via a 4-2 decision to put Trine on the scoreboard, 11-3.
The Comets extended its lead the very next match with another pin at 149 pounds before freshman Riley Rasler (LaGrange, Ind./Priarie Heights) posted a major decision victory in his 157-pound match against Adam Hall to make the score 17-7.
Following a pair of Olivet victories, Trine captured both the 184 and 197 weight classes with sophomore Luke Carver (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) winning his 184-pound matchup by a 6-5 decision followed by sophomore Anthony Neal (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) who also won by decision, 3-2, that gave the Thunder their final team points of the match and made the score, 25-13.
The outcome in the final match of the night at heavyweight, went in favor of Olivet as the Comets went on to claim the 28-13 overall victory.
Trine will travel to North Manchester, Ind. on Tuesday, Feb. 6 for a dual meet against Manchester University. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
