Wrestling Goes 3-0 at Thunder Duals

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University wrestling team had an impressive day on the mat, winning all three of its matches as part of the Thunder Duals held at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center in Angola, Ind.

The Thunder posted convincing wins against all three opponents that included a 48-9 win against Ancilla College, a 36-17 victory against MacMurray (Ill.) College and a 39-18 win against Thomas More (Ky.) College.

Individually, four wrestlers finished undefeated on the day, led by sophomore Brandon Minear (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) who finished with a combined 3-0 record at 149 and 157 pounds with two of his wins coming via pinfall.  Minear recorded pins against Thaddeus Dietrich of Ancilla in a time of 4:07 and against Michah Conaway of MacMurray in a time of 2:10.  His third victory of the afternoon was a 9-0 major decision over Cody Roland of Thomas More.

Juniors Luke Carver (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis), Austin Farrell (Hopkins, Mich./Allegan), Nick Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) and freshman Owen Conklin (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) all finished 2-0 in their individual matches.  Carver competed in both of his matches at 184 pounds and won by pins in both bouts that included Chanden Morgan of MacMurray, in just 51 seconds, and Avery Jones of Thomas More in 1:03.

Farrell also posted a pair of pins and needed just 52 seconds to defeat Anthony Perales from MacMurray and then overtook Thomas More's James Caniglia in a time of 3:43.

Miller recorded a pin in one of his victories and did so in a time of 55 seconds against Brannyn Washington from MacMurray.  He then recorded a tech fall against Thomas More's Daylan Bailey by a score of 17-2 (3:19).

Trine is scheduled to compete at the Ohio Northern University Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1 in Ada, Ohio.  The day is set to begin at 9 a.m.
