Wrestling Finishes 12th at North Central Invitational

NAPERVILLE, ILL.  --  The Trine University wrestling team placed 12th at the North Central (Ill.) College Invitational in Naperville, Ill.

The Thunder earned 25 team points to place 12th of 14 teams.  Host school North Central won the team title with 163 points and Olivet (Mich.) College was second with 118.5 points.  Concordia (Minn.) College was third with 109 points.

Junior Luke Carver (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) was the lone individual to place for the Thunder in his 184-pound weight class and placed third overall after posting a 3-1 record on the day.  After receiving a first-round bye, Carver defeated his first opponent, Natan Jara (Wheaton College), by pin in a time of 1:01.  He then defeated his next opponent by tech fall shutting out his opponent (Clayton Higelmire, Olivet College), 15-0.  Carver then fell in his next match to put him in the third-place bout where he faced Nick Ferraro from the University of Chicago.  In the match, Carver went on to win by his second tech fall of the competition, and his second shutout, by the score of 16-0.

Trine will next compete at the Washington & Lee University Duals on Monday, Dec. 17 in Lexington City, Va.  The first matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
