Trine Men's Wrestlers Travel to Alma to Compete in MIAA Team Duals

ALMA, MICH.  --  The Trine University men's wrestling ventured North to compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Team Dual Tournament hosted by Alma (Mich.) College in Alma, Mich.

The Thunder finished the day with a 0-3 dual record with matchups against Adrian (Mich.) College, Olivet (Mich.) College and host school Alma.  The closest match for Trine came against the Scots who came out on top by just a point, 25-24.

Against Alma, All four of Trine's individual match victories came by pinfall in freshman Seth Rohrbach (Terre Haute, Ind./West Vigo) at 141 pounds, fellow freshman Isaac Hawkins (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) at 149 pounds, junior Owen Conklin (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) at 165 pounds and freshman Jacob Jackson (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Central Catholic) at 285 pounds.  Rohrbach pinned his opponent's (Steven Davidson) shoulders in a time of 4:59 and Hawkins pinned Mason Priest in about two-and-a-half minutes (2:21).    

Conklin needed 3:44 to earn Trine's third pin of the match defeating Alexander Henry and Jackson defeated Grayson Richter in a time of 2:22.  

In the match against Adrian, freshman Ethan Nash (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) highlighted the match for Trine with a pin at 157-pounds for the maximum six team points after defeating Isaac Ramirez in a time of 5:10.  Freshman Jett Boots (Angola, Ind./Angola) and Hawkins also recorded wins to round out the remaining team points for the Thunder.  Boots captured three points with a 12-7 decision against Robert Andrews and Hawkins posted a 10-1 major decision win against Landyn VanWyk for four points.  

But it was the Bulldogs who would take the overall match, winning by a final score of 31-13.

In the last match against Olivet, the Comets defeated the Thunder by a final score of 37-9.  Trine recorded wins in two individual bouts that included a forfeit win by freshman Joseph Langeman (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) in the 133-pound weight class.  The remaining team points were earned by Riley Rasler (LaGrange, Ind./Prairie Heights) who defeated Dylan Phelps by a 6-4 decision in his 141-pound matchup.

Trine is scheduled to compete against Mount St. Joseph University in dual meet next Sunday, Feb. 21 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  A start time for the match has yet to be announced.
