Boots Headlines Men's Wrestling at Central Regional

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Sophomore Jett Boots (Angola, Ind. / Angola) advanced to the second day of competition of the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Championship Central Regional hosted by Adrian College, headlining the delegation from Trine University.

Boots competed in the 133 weight class and produced a sixth-place finish for the team. The lone second day participant for the team, Boots started the event with a victory in the perliminary round by technical fall (15-0). He then lost his first match in the championship bracket heading to the consolation side. There he picked up three straight victories. The first came by pin (Fall 4:12) and the other two both came by medical forfeit. IN the consolation bracket semifinal, he fell by major decision (11-3) and then in the fifth-place match he came up just short to finish in sixth (7-2).

In the 149 weight class, sophomore Isaac Hawkins (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) lost his first preliminary match before bouncing back with a technical fall victory (24-9, 2:24) to earn a spot in the consolation bracket. There he picked up a round one victory with a pin (Fall 3:43) beforing dropping his second in the same fashion.

Freshman Philip Burney (Livonia, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) went 1-2 at the event, with his one victory coming in the opening round of the consolation bracket of the 157 weight class by pin (Fall 0:28).

At the 165 weight class sophomore Ethan Nash (Franklin, Ind. / Franklin Community) also finished 1-2. His victory came by major decision (15-7) in the preliminary round.

Senior Owen Conklin (West Lafayette, Ind. / Harrison) opened the 174 weight class bracket with a pin (Fall 1:12) of his own to advance to the quarterfinals. He would drop his next two matches to finish the first day of competition 1-2.

Sophomore Jacob Jackson (Toledo, Ohio / Toledo Central Catholic) lost his first round, but bounced back with a pin (Fall 2:25) in the opening round of the consolation bracket. He would finish the event 1-2dropping his final match in a tight 3-2 decision.

Also representing the Thunder were Kenneth Garcia (Sturgis, Mich. / Sturgis) in the 125 weight class, Joey Langeman (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) in the 141 weight class, Andrew Williamson (Mount Gilead, Ohio / Mount Gilead) in the 184 weight class and Ryan Mahoney (Westfield, Ind. / Westfield) in the 197 weight class.

As a team, Trine finished 12th at the event with 32.5 points.
