Nationally Ranked Olivet Pulls Away from Thunder

OLIVET, Mich. – The Trine University men's wrestling team traveled to face nationally-ranked Olivet College for their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual of the season. The Comets, who are ranked 11th in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings, came out on top by the score of 37-4.

After falling behind 9-0 in the first two matches of the day, junior Jett Boots took the mats in the 141 weight class where he faced off with Dylan Phelps of Olivet. He came up with a 11-2 victory to secure a Major Decision and earn four points for the team score.

Junior Isaac Hawkins in the 149 match and sophomore Philip Burney in the 157 match both kept their matches close but came up just short, falling in regular decisions. In the 165 match, junior Ethan Nash held nationally ranked Kameron Bush of the Comets to only a Major Decision.

The Comets pulled away in the final matches of the day finishing off with the 37-4 victory.

In the extra matches for the day two members of the Thunder came up with victories. Freshman Tommy Miller came up with a pin (4:29) in a 133 match while Lakin Webb in a 157 match won in a 7-2 Decision.

Trine will text take the mats when they host Alma College for another MIAA dual. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 19.
