Albion Wins Despite Early Lead for Trine

ALBION, Mich. -- The Trine University men's wrestling team traveled to face Albion College for their third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual match of the season. The team led at the halfway point of the match, but came up just short of the Britons by the score of 21-17.

Freshman Shaun Pratt started off the night in the 125 match and scored bonus points in the just the first period. He recorded a pin at the 2:27 mark of the match to give the Thunder a 6-0 lead in the dual.

After falling behind in the 133 match, junior Joseph Langeman scored a takedown in the final seconds of the third period to force an overtime period. He unfortunately fell but only gave the Britons three team points on a 10-8 decision.

Junior Jett Boots got the team back on track in the 141 match where he comfortably won with a 7-1 decison.

Another comeback gave the Thunder a 12-3 after the 149 match. Junior Isaac Hawkins fell behind in the match but was able to pull off a third period comeback and take the match 8-6.

Sophomre Philip Burney recorded the final win of the night for Trine in the 157 match. He dominated from start to finish coming up with a 17-0 technical fall at 4:15 in the match, earning five team points for the Thunder and a 17-3 lead.

Following a short intermission, the home side came out ahead in the next four matches but were unable to earn bonus points in any. The Thunder wrestled strong but fell by decisions making the score 17-15 going into the heavyweight bought. That final match would go to the Britons after an early pin handing Trine a 21-17 loss.

Trine falls to 1-2 in MIAA play and 4-3 overall following the loss. They will continue their season when they host Adrian College on Wednesday, February 1 for another MIAA dual match. The first match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
