Wrestling Finishes Fourth at Mid-States Invite

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's wrestling team finished fourth as a team at the Mid-States Invite with nine different members of the team finishing top-eight in their weight classes. Freshman Tommy Miller paced the team by winning the 133-pound bracket.

Miller began his day with a pin at 3:54 of his match, moving into the semifinal match of his bracket. He then won his second match by 11-6 decision to make his way to the championship bout. There he scored a 16-5 major decision to take home the gold.

Fellow freshman Shaun Pratt turned in the next best performance for the day with a third-place finish in the 125-pound bracket. He opened the day with a 16-0 technical fall victory to move to the semifinal round. A loss sent him to the consolation bracket semifinal match, there he picked up his second win of the day with a 11-2 major decision. He finished off his day with a pin in the third-place match to secure the finish.

Junior Andrew Williamson turned in another good performance for the team finishing fifth in the 184-pound bracket. After a loss by sudden victory in the opening round he put together a pair of wins, the first with a pin a 1:10 and the second by 8-2 decision. A loss in the consolation semifinal moved Williamson to the fifth-place match where he won by forfeit.

Fellow junior Mason Custer also finished fifth while competing in the 197-pound bracket. Custer opened the day with a quick pin followed by a 10-6 decision to put him into the semifinal match. There he suffered a tech fall followed by a fall in the consolation semifinal to move into the fifth-place match. There he secured the finish with a pin at 1:41.

Three different members of the team finished seventh at the event. Junior Ethan Nash achieved the feat in the 165-pound bracket utilizing a pin and a decision on his way to the place. Jacob Saylor became the second grappler to place at 197 where he used a pin and a medical forfeit to secure the spot. Finally sophomore Kyler Bills worked his way to the seventh-place match with two pins and a sudden-victory win to secure the finish.

Finally, a pair of Thunder finished eighth in their brackets. Sophomore Amir Crockett secured the spot in the 141-pound bracket and freshman Lakin Webb did the same at 157.
